Brandi and I met up with Chrissy last Monday to eat some grindz and lay out in the Hawaiian sun. She took us to the locally adored Cockroach Cove also known as Halona Beach Cove. This beach sits on the Southwest tip of Oahu next to the Halona Blowhole Lookout parking lot. Tourists can easily see the cove from the lookout but this hidden gem is still (relatively) under the radar for "guide book" destinations.
We went midday and there were a good amount of people but it wasn't as busy as the other destination beaches we've visited on Oahu.
I took my drone up from the black rock and got a great bird's eye perspective on the cove. A lot of the local kids that were jumping into the crashing waves were flashing shaka gestures toward the drone and I managed to capture some diving. We went out there mid-June and the waves were pretty intense relative to other videos I've seen of Cockroach Cove. Most likely, the intensity depends on the season. The beach was just a short but steep walk down from the parking lot and there is a cave towards the back of the cliff. We laid out in the sun, drank some Sapporo brews and dipped in and out of the water.
Here are some shots from the DJI Mavic Pro.
